Move of the Day

De La Riva to Technical Stand-Up Sweep

BluePurple

Hook the lead leg, off-balance the passer, and stand up on top of their base.

De La Riva is an off-balancing hook, not a place to hang out. With a sleeve and a collar (or belt), you load their lead leg, force a post, and use a technical stand-up to come up on the single or sit them down. Blues and purples both leak this when they play DLR passively.

The steps

  1. 01From open guard, wrap your outside hook behind their lead thigh (DLR hook) and control that same-side sleeve.
  2. 02Second hand on the collar or belt. Other foot on the far hip or biceps.
  3. 03Pull the sleeve and extend the DLR hook to make them light on that lead foot.
  4. 04Sit up, post your free hand, and technical stand-up into their loaded leg.
  5. 05Finish as a single-leg or run the pipe if they hop to defend.
