Berimbolo Entry from De La Riva
Purple
Spin under the lead leg, take the back, and keep your hooks honest.
The berimbolo is an inversion to the back from a De La Riva (or reverse DLR) entanglement. You are not rolling for Instagram. You are using their posted lead leg as an axis, spinning underneath, and arriving on the back with a belt or pants grip already paid for.
The steps
- 01Establish DLR plus a belt or pants grip on the near hip. Sleeve on the same-side arm is a bonus.
- 02Drop your outside shoulder to the mat and invert, looking under their lead leg.
- 03Kick the DLR hook through as you spin, hugging the leg like a backpack strap.
- 04Come out facing their back. Insert the bottom hook first.
- 05Climb to a seatbelt. If they roll, ride and re-insert — do not abandon the spin halfway.
Details that matter
- If you lose the belt, you lose the spin. Re-grip before you invert.
- Keep your head close to their far hip so you do not get flattened into 50/50 by accident.
- This is a purple-belt problem: know the emergency exit to a single-leg if the spin stalls.
