Move of the Day

Triangle from Closed Guard

BluePurple

Isolate one arm, climb the legs, and finish with angle — not calf strength.

The triangle is a geometry problem. You need their one arm in, one arm out, your hips high enough to lock the figure-four, and your shoulders off the centerline so the carotid is actually compressed. Muscle finishes fail. Angle finishes do not.

The steps

  1. 01Break posture. Control a sleeve and get their opposite arm across your centerline.
  2. 02Open, throw your leg over that shoulder, and bite your hamstring on the back of their neck.
  3. 03Hip escape to the trapped-arm side so you are looking at their ear, not the ceiling.
  4. 04Lock the figure-four: ankle behind the opposite knee. Pull the head down.
  5. 05Control the trapped wrist, squeeze your knees, and cut the angle another 10 degrees if they stack.
